Rumin Farhana, Member of Parliament from BNP's reserved women's seat, made some remarks while questioning the Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid in the National Parliament. While replying, Rumin also made a counter remark to the state minister. This incident took place during the question and answer session in the National Parliament on Tuesday.
After the Maghrib prayer break, Rumin Farhana stood up to ask supplementary questions. Addressing the Minister of State for Power, he said, "As much as our ministers are skilled in discussing the past, they are not as skilled in answering the accountability we want."
Citing a report by the Indian media Hindustan Times, Rumin Farhana said that a power plant similar to the Rooppur nuclear power plant is being built in India. Bangladesh is spending four times more than India. He wants to know from the Minister of State for Power why the cost is so high and why the government is buying fuel from the spot market.
While answering, Nasrul Hamid said in a somewhat sarcastic tone, "I expected him (Rumin) to be as smart as he is, but he is not as modern." The kind of data needed to know his information is not there. Because, he doesn't understand, nuclear power plants are not under my ministry. The question should have been asked to the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Addressing the speaker, Nasrul Hamid said, "You understand how much information the members of parliament ask about." I would request the member of parliament to know the correct information and what questions to ask for which ministry.
The state minister said about purchasing fuel oil from the spot market instead of long-term contracts, when the government made a long-term contract a few years ago, everyone criticized it. There has been criticism on why the government is going long term instead of buying at five dollars from the spot market. Now criticizing the opposite.
