Cricket Australia has apologized to the children who were victims of sexual abuse

Cricket Australia (CA) has apologized to children who have been sexually abused in the Australian cricket arena. Calling child sexual abuse a 'terrible problem', the CA called for more steps to prevent recurrence.

CA has recently signed Australia's National Redress Scheme or National Remedial Action Plan. This scheme has been launched in Australia for victims of child sexual abuse at institutional level.

The children who have been subjected to torture at various times are brought under this scheme and given medical care and counseling as per the need and various types of assistance are provided.

Today, CA chairman Lachlan Henderson told the Sydney Morning Herald, "Child sexual abuse has long been a problem in society and in various sports, including cricket. We cannot change what happened.

However, the victims need to be supported as much as possible. I apologize on behalf of Cricket Australia to anyone who has been sexually harassed while involved in Australian cricket.'

Cases of child sexual abuse have been reported several times in Australian cricket. Earlier this year, a former junior cricketer filed a case against CA.

He alleged that he was sexually assaulted during the 1985 tour of Australia under-19 team to India and Sri Lanka.

Earlier in 2009, former Australian state cricketer Ian King was jailed for abusing a schoolboy. It was proved that he committed this crime while he was a coach in the nineties.

After joining the National Redress Scheme, Cricket Australia has also urged its state bodies to come forward.

In this regard, Henderson said, 'We are encouraging all state agencies to join the scheme. Cricket Australia is now looking at ways to extend support to the victims.
