Due to security reasons, the district administration has banned tourists from traveling to four upazilas of Bandarban. This information was announced in a public notice signed by District Magistrate Lutfar Rahman on Sunday evening.
Earlier, a travel ban was imposed on Rowanchari and Ruma upazilas for the same reason from October 18 until further notice. Along with those two upazilas, in today's notification, travel to Thanchi and Alikadam upazilas has been banned. The ban, effective from today, will remain in force till October 30.
According to a letter from the Bandarban Army Region, there is specific information about the presence of armed separatist terrorists in Alikadam and Thanchi upazilas. In that light, the travel of tourists has been banned from today till October 30 in order to continue the dominating patrol activities and intelligence activities of the Sena region.
District Magistrate Lutfar Rahman told Prothom Alo that along with the bans imposed by Thanchi and Alikadam upazilas, the bans of Rowangchari and Ruma upazilas issued earlier will also remain in force.
Since October 9, a coordinated anti-militancy operation has been going on by law enforcement forces in Barathali Union of Bilaichhari Upazila of Rangamati and Rawangchhari and Ruma Upazilas of Bandarban. Due to the safety of tourists for the expedition, travel to Ruma and Rowangchhari upazilas has been banned. However, since October 18, no written notification has been given regarding the ban imposed on those two upazilas. This time a public notice was issued regarding the ban in Thanchi and Alikadam.
