Caught stealing, calls 999 and says, 'I'm in danger'



In the dark of night, five people were fishing by throwing nets around each other. The person on guard in the neighboring enclosure noticed it and informed the owner of the enclosure. When he chased with people, they took shelter in a nearby house. Later, one of them called the National Emergency Service number 999 to escape the lynching. Later the police came and rescued them and took them to the police station.


The incident took place in Payradanga village of Satkhira Sadar upazila around 2:30 am on Sunday. The five people have been sent to jail through the court after being arrested in the case of theft.

The five persons who went to jail are Saiful Islam, Mostakin Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, Hussain Babu and Shaharul Islam of Payradanga village of Satkhira Sadar Upazila.


Shariful Islam, the owner of Payradanga village, said that he has a five-bigha fish enclosure on the south bank of the village. Five people were fishing from that enclosure around 2.30 am on Sunday. He saw a man named Abdullah guarding the nearby fence and told him on the phone. Immediately he tried to catch the thief with the people, they ran and took shelter in a house. One of them called 999 for help. The police arrived shortly after the incident and took them to the police station.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Abu Jehad Fakhrul Alam Khan said that one of the arrested persons called 999 and asked for help saying that he was in great danger. Later, a police team from Sadar police station went to the spot and rescued them. It was later learned that they were caught stealing fish in the enclosure and called 999 for help to escape the mob beating of local people.


OC Abu Jehad Fakhrul Alam Khan also said that the owner of the enclosure, Shariful Islam, filed a case with the police station as the plaintiff. In that case, five of them were arrested and sent to jail today.
